Songwriter Laurece West teethed to her Mom’s Gospel and Chicago Blues habit. Her clear sweet tone and improvisational jazz vocal style frolic through creatively reinterpreted blues and folk changes. On piano or electric bass, she is a luminous channel for poetic songs of personal transformation and spiritual celebration.
Roxaboxen Exhibitions is an artist run gallery and performance space in the heart of Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood.

“The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet.” Disasters like the devastating earthquakes in Haiti invite and challenge us to ask -- where at this time is God calling us to stand, where is that place of convergence between our deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger? With this theme taken from the writings of theologian Frederick Buechner, Off The Deep End Ensemble invites you to explore these question through original stories, dance, music and poetry created in the moment. Audience input is a vital part of every Off The Deep End concert. Your ideas will come to life on stage in a unique, unscripted performance – a different kind of improv! Maiya Greaves Maiya’s extraordinary compositions for piano and voice meld the harmonies of American Jazz with the esthetic of impressionistic art songs. The complex flavors of her three octave voice bask in her sparse, yet luscious, piano arrangements. From the Catskill Mountains of New York, Peter Shickele said: “Maiya comes across as a force of nature” in a performance that is compellingly intimate and honest. Laurece's Videos and CDs Ed Mckay's has 10,000 square feet of used books and more to feed your head! http://www.wefeedyourhead.com/wordpress/the-stores/raleigh

Laurece will be in a festival within a festival! Playing at Shakori Hill, she joins FodFest. This is an international festival honoring the life of Daniel Pearl, the South Asia Bureau Chief of The Wall Street Journal, who disappeared in Karachi, Pakistan, going to a meeting with a go between who promised access to an elusive source, while researching a story on shoe bomber Richard Reid. Angelia Jolie portraited his wife, Mariane Pearl, in the film version of their memoir, "A Mighty Heart (2007)".
Danny loved to jam and believed in the power of music to bring people together. Thus to honor him, the best in all of us, and how we are all comnnected, the festival it is about community building through music!
FODfest (the concept and the organizers) travel, but in each location local musicians jam together around the person "leading the tune." Laurece will lead one or two songs while others back her up. Then she will play bass or keys to support other lead musician's songs. See www.FODfest.org and http://www.shakorihills.org/directions/. Please join us!
